Tony's bio
Tony Austin

I had over twenty years experience in marketing and advertising before leaving the agency scene in
Atlanta and turning my focus to real estate. Now a licensed real estate broker, I help prospective buyers
who might like to do as I did--give up some time in the city to enjoy more time in the mountains.

I work with both buyers and sellers using the marketing skills I learned in the agency business to give their
properties maximum exposure.

My marketing and advertising clients included IBM General Systems Division, Herman Miller office
furniture, Pizza Hut southeast region and Copeland Meats, a division of the Green Giant Company. A local
client was Buckhead Brokers, a premier Atlanta brokerage with a large "new homes" division.
In the 1980s, I was part of a team who started Wade Hampton Golf Club in Cashiers. During that time, I was
consulting with Lake Toxaway Company by writing marketing plans and producing brochures. Eventually I joined
Lake Toxaway Company, initially as marketing director and listing  coordinator, now as a broker in sales.

My contributions during that time included the
Lake Toxaway Magazine, the Toxaway Reader, Friday Friends,
Music at Meadow Ridge, the hiking club, a web site redesign, and all of the flyers and promotional materials for all
of the company's listings.
In the 1970s, I had an opportunity to teach advertising at The American College in Lucerne, Switzerland. After
a year of instructing, I became Director of Education, then I moved with the school to London where it became
The American College in London. I served as president of the college before returning to the United States and
my advertising career.

I enjoy working both buyers and sellers and feel that my marketing background benefits both.
Back in Atlanta, I worked for an advertising agency that specialized in resort properties such as Kiawah Island
and Hilton Head Island. My clients included real estate holdings of Alcoa Aluminum (Dataw Island) and selected
Florida properties of Arvida (The Islands of Cocoplum).
Other clients included Post Properties, Pizza Hut, and Harcourt, Brace Jovanovitch.
My view of the real estate business is shaped by my experience as a marketer (Arvida, Alcoa Properties, and
Buckhead Brokers), as a developer (Wade Hampton Golf Club) and as a broker (McKee Properties and Lake
Toxaway Company). I see real estate from a lot of different angles.
