July 1 - Sam Knob Easy. (Details) There's a 360-degree view of the Pisgah National Forest from the summit Sam Knob. This is a gentle hike. If the group wants to we can include a side trip to the Devil's Courthouse on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
July 22 - Fish Hatchery Moderate (Details) The trailhead for this hike is the Walhalla Fish Hatchery. It’s worth a few minutes to look around there, then we start down the trail, following the East Fork of the Chattooga River down to where it empties into the river itself. There’s a nice picnic area there. Bring a snack or lunch and we can stay at this junction for a while. Those who want to can explore up and down the river, maybe venturing as far as Spoon Auger Falls.
July 29 - Ellicott Rock Moderate (Details) The hike to Ellicott Rock offers not only a pleasant walk along the banks of the Chattooga River but a chance to see a rock that has an interesting role in the region's history...a rock that's listed in the National Registry of Historic Places. We'll walk along the river for a while and sit along the banks and climbing out onto the rocks, then turn around and come back the way we came.
Meet at Amore Cafe Friday mornings, 8:45 am
Aug 26 - Warden Falls Moderate (Details) This beautiful waterfall on the Tuckasegee River cascades about 35 feet into a pool at the base of the falls. It's an easy hike into Panthertown Valley, but rated moderate due to the final short but steep descent to the falls...and on the return, a short but steep climb back to the trail. The waterfall is impressive.
