Lake Cardinal
"The lake was a strong draw," one
property owner says.  "If you had to pin
it on something, the lake would be it.
We have breakfast on the boat early in
the morning when the sun is coming
up. Sometimes we go out at midnight
to look at the stars.
"It's the best combination of golf and
lake anywhere up in the Blue Ridge
Mountains,"
Lots along Lake Toxaway were among
the first sold nearly  40 years ago.  As
a result, an eclectic collection of
architectural designs reflects different
tastes and different period influences.
Lake Cardinal offers a strong sense of
privacy while still offering the exclusive
feeling of waterfront property.  At
65-acres, no motor-driven boats are
allowed, preserving the air serenity
that defines Lake Cardinal.
Banked by steep mountains and held
back by a narrow dam, Lake Cardinal
is a serene lake of 65 acres 3,030 feet
above the sea and 20 feet about Lake
Toxaway.  The terms of life on Lake
Cardinal mean you will alway enjoy that
serenity.  Precluded from gas-powered
boats, Lake Cardinal is the perfect
home for a canoe or a skiff.  Nothing
louder than the electric hum of a
trolling motor or the breezy whir of a
tapered fly-line ripping its way through
the crisp air will intrude on that
serenity.  It's a place where a whisper
seem the most appropriate way to
converse.
The spillway on the narrow dam of
Lake Cardinal passes the fresh
mountain water under North Club
Boulevard into Lake Toxaway.
Interestingly, both lakes have the same
name, just in a different dialect.
Toxaway is Cherokee Indian for red
bird-the cardinal.

Both Lake Cardinal and Lake Toxaway
are exclusively for the use of property
owners.  And Lake Cardinal, with no
access ramp, may be used only by
those who own on the property along
the shore.
